数年前に北投石のベッドやホルミシスルームなど経験し、身体の癒しとしてイメージしていた。

 

時間はかかったが皆様に喜んで頂ける北投石を入手できたと思っている。

北投石とは

北投石（ほくとうせき）とは、台湾の北投温泉で発見された天然石。鉱物名としては「含鉛重晶石（がんえんじゅうしょうせき）」という、鉛を含んだバライト（重晶石）の亜種。市場に出回っている北投石は、粉末をセラミック加工して人工的に固化したものだ。

国産の北投石は天然記念物として指定されており、採石は禁止されている。そのため、現在市場に出回っているものは台湾産の北投石である。

北投石の歴史

日本で北投石が初めて発見されたのは1898年（明治31年）。発見者は理学士の櫻井廣三郎。彼は秋田県の渋黒温泉（現・玉川温泉）にて、見たことのない鉱石を発見。当時は鉛の硫酸塩であることは分かったが、それ以外の情報は一切不明だった。

そして1905年、地質学者の岡本要八郎が台北州七星郡北投街の温泉で入浴した帰りに、その付近の川で見たことのない石を発見する。

その石はラジウムなどを含む特別な石であることが分かり、北投温泉の名前から「北投石・hokutolite」と名付けられた。

研究の結果、玉川温泉で発見された鉛の硫酸塩と、北投石は同じ石であることが判明した。そして玉川温泉の北投石は1922年に日本の天然記念物に、さらに1952年には特別天然記念物に指定される。玉川温泉の北投石は病気を治す効果があるとされて一躍有名になり、多くの人が玉川温泉を訪れている。

北投石は現在、台湾の北投温泉と日本の玉川温泉でしか産出していない希少な天然石だ。国産の北投石は国の天然記念物として指定されており、採石は禁止されている。そのため、市場に出回っている北投石は台湾産のもののみ。当店でも台湾産の北投石を取り扱っている。

 

北投石の用途

北投石はラジウムなどの放射線を含んでおり、ホルミシス効果（通常は有害な物質が、ごく微量であればよい効果をもたらす生理的刺激作用）によって健康を促進する効果があるとされている。そのため、健康グッズやパワーストーンとして人気が高い天然石なのだ。市場に出回っている北投石は粉末をセラミック加工して固化したビーズなどになるため、品質が安定していることも魅力だ。

What is Hokutolite

 

Hokutolite is a natural stone found in Beitou hot springs in Taiwan. As a mineral name, it is a subspecies of barite containing lead called “lead-containing barite”. Hokutolite on the market is artificially hardened by ceramic processing of powder.

 

 

Domestic Hokutolite is designated as a natural monument, and mining is prohibited. Therefore, what is currently on the market is Hokutolite from Taiwan.

Hokutolite History

 

Hokutolite was first discovered in Japan in 1898 (Meiji 31). The discovery was made by Kozaburo Sakurai, a Bachelor of Science student. He discovered an ore he had never seen before at Shibukuro Onsen (currently Tamagawa Onsen) in Akita Prefecture. At the time, it was known to be lead sulfate, but no other information was known.
Then, in 1905, geologist Yohachiro Okamoto discovered a stone he had never seen before in a nearby river on his way home from bathing in a hot spring in Beitou Street, Qixing County, Taipei. The stone was found to be a special stone containing radium, and was named “Hokutolite” after the name of the Beitou hot spring.
As a result of research, it turned out that lead sulfate found in Tamagawa Onsen and hokutolite are the same stone. The Hokutolite of Tamagawa Onsen was designated as a natural monument of Japan in 1922, and as a special natural monument in 1952. The beitou stone of Tamagawa Onsen is said to be effective in curing illness, and has become famous, and many people visit Tamagawa Onsen.

Hokutolite is a rare natural stone that is currently produced only in Beitou Hot Springs in Taiwan and Tamagawa Hot Springs in Japan. Domestically produced Hokutolite is designated as a national natural monument, and quarrying is prohibited. Therefore, the Hokutolite on the market is only made in Taiwan. Our shop also handles Beitouite from Taiwan.

Uses of Hokutolite
Hokutolite contains radiation such as radium, and is said to have health-promoting effects due to its hormesis effect (a physiological stimulus that normally causes harmful substances to produce beneficial effects in very small amounts). Therefore, it is a natural stone that is popular as health goods and power stones. Hokutolite on the market is solidified by ceramic processing of powder, so the quality is stable.
